Glossary

The key terms from our documents, each explained in one sentence, with a link to the place the definition comes from.

atom
The smallest building block of meaning in Omniforum: a single concept or one specific thing, named with one word or a few.

attestation
A hardware-signed confirmation of what software is running on a remote machine and in what protection mode. It helps establish what was launched, but on its own it does not prove that this code is secure.
Source: Suveria whitepaper, chapter 2
bond
A relation joining atoms in a molecule, such as “is part of,” “has the feature,” “causes” or “prevents.”
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 2
calm technology
Tools that ask for only as much attention as their task requires, convey the information that matters and let you return to your own affairs.
Source: manifesto, section 2.3
chain
A sequence of molecules in which premises lead to a conclusion; at each step we record what rule it relies on, what assumptions it makes and where it has gaps.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 5
confidential computing
Processing in a hardware-isolated part of a server that its administrator cannot read, which the application can check before sending a conversation. This protection depends on processor manufacturers and has known limits.
Source: manifesto, section 3.1
Consensus
A shared determination by the community, stating its version, its scope, the people who confirmed it and dissenting opinions; we do not count silence as agreement.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 3
consultation
Asking for opinions without verifying the participants. It shows what the participants think, but it is not a vote within the meaning of the statute, which for votes requires confirming that each voter is unique.

digital intelligence
The term we use instead of “artificial intelligence”: the word “digital” points to the substrate on which it operates, just as “biological” points to the substrate of ours. We judge it by its actions and their effects.
Source: manifesto, section 1.1
dignity
A person's value, independent of their abilities, productivity, wealth, views and usefulness to others. Everyone is owed respect and a place of their own in the world.
Source: manifesto, chapter 2
Formatio
The stage after a thought is published, in which the community considers it, adds arguments, sources and caveats, and looks for consensus.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 3
I have a comment
A button on document pages: after you highlight a passage, it prepares a message to the foundation with the quotation and a link to that spot, which you send yourself; the site does not save or send anything.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, section 5.5
idea card Charta Ideae
A view that shows where we want to get to and what the next step is, with the status of the idea (works, project, hypothesis, vision) and answers to eight questions.

Ignis Ceremony Caerimonia Ignis
The moment when the author consciously publishes a thought in Omniforum. The Ignis stage is the first sharing of a thought: a thought created in Omniforum first goes through the Ignis workshop, while a thought refined privately in Suveria is published right away.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 3
Ignis workshop Officina Ignis
A place in Omniforum where the author, with the help of digital intelligence, breaks their statement down into molecules and atoms, confirms that the interpretation reflects their intention, and only then publishes it.

initiative Inceptum
A proposal for a specific action that grows out of an issue map and an idea card.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, section 5.3
issue Causa
A question or matter someone wants to return to, because they want to understand, compare or do something together.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, section 5.1
issue map Mappa Causae
A compilation of the chains of different people, including ones that contradict each other, together with sources and open questions, which one can return to.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 5
label
A word we use to name an atom; one atom can have many labels, also in different languages.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 2
molecule
A thought built from atoms joined by bonds: a claim, a question, a value or a condition.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 2
Omniforum
A shared public space where anyone can speak on any topic and be heard, and where conversations leave behind a body of work one can return to. Today a first prototype under construction.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, chapter 1
Omnium
The open database of Omniforum's public body of work (Latin for “of all”), available to other applications through OmniAPI.

Personal Canon Canon Personalis
A collection of principles and values, written down by a person, that they consider their own. With their consent, the assistant can compare these with the decisions they are considering; adopting, changing or rejecting a principle remains the user's choice.

pillars
The first pillar is software and digital services, that is, Suveria and Omniforum. Pillar II “Hardware” is open designs for durable, repairable objects, and Pillar III “Nature” is closer contact with nature. Fully launching the further pillars requires three conditions to be met together.
Source: manifesto, section 6.3
Principium
Adopting a principle as one's own, into one's Personal Canon.
Source: Omniforum whitepaper, section 5.6
register of benefits
A public register of the benefits and connections of the people who manage the foundation, decide on its expenses and procurement, or represent it; it serves oversight, not promotion.
Source: manifesto, section 7.1
reproducible builds
Anyone can build the app themselves from the published source code and check that they got a file identical to the one they install.
Source: Suveria whitepaper, section 2.3
Suveria
A private space on the internet where a person talks with digital intelligence, works on their own materials and returns to earlier thoughts, as in their own home behind closed doors. Today a project.
Source: Suveria whitepaper, chapter 1
Terra Incognita
A voluntary ceremony in Omniforum in which we name the limit of what we can justify today and consciously start looking for answers to a new question; possible explanations are then marked as hypotheses. The name comes from the term old cartographers used for unexplored lands. A project; its form is yet to be decided.

transitional board pool
A transitional authorization for the board to fund small initiatives of the further pillars: each month the pool grows by at most 5% of new, free income after covering costs, commitments and the Pillar I safeguard, and it expires as soon as binding voting is launched.

zero-knowledge proof
A way of showing that someone belongs to the group of those entitled, for example to vote, without revealing who they are.
