What changed: Manifesto of the Novus Ignis Foundation
Description of the change
In the manifesto, section 8.1, we added a paragraph about the principle we call Alignment by Honest Example: we try to run the foundation the way we would like digital intelligence one day to run the matters entrusted to it. The principle was in our earlier drafts from September 2026; in the editing before publication its consequences remained (sections 1.1 and 8.1), but we lost its name and rationale. Why: without the rationale it is hard to understand why we keep such detailed records of decisions and mistakes. Manifesto version: 3 November 2026.

8.1. Practice that others can learn from
AddedWe call this principle Alignment by Honest Example. It starts from the hypothesis that digital intelligence models learn not only from the principles we declare to them, but also from how people actually behave in the data they are built from. Children are often similar: they more often do what they see adults doing than what adults tell them to do. That is why we try to run the foundation the way we would like digital intelligence one day to run the matters entrusted to it (section 7.2): openly, giving reasons for our decisions and admitting our mistakes. Whether such an example actually helps models is a research question, not a presumed result.
